Eileen Momblanco Honored as a 2023 Immigration Law Trailblazer by The National Law Journal
Laner Muchin partner Eileen Momblanco has been named an Immigration Law Trailblazer by The National Law Journal (NLJ) for advancing the practice of immigration law, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic when she was able to facilitate the transfer of foreign talent to the United States. The NLJ Trailblazer Award is given to an attorney that acts as an agent of change within their sector and has innovated their practice, policy or technology.
Eileen has dedicated her career to practicing immigration law, maintaining the employment of workers and safeguarding the U.S. economy, especially during the pandemic. When clients needed help negating the negative impacts of the health crisis on their businesses, she assembled a team to provide counseling and guidance on complex immigration issues.
For example, before the pandemic, one of Eileen’s multinational clients had a business project underway worth multi-millions. Due to changes in the law and updated travel guidelines, it became difficult for foreign talent to travel to the United States and work on the project. As a solution, Eileen developed a streamlined process for clients with emergency travel needs. She received visa approvals for a large group of foreign national employees, ensuring that the business objectives could be met before the client’s deadline.
Eileen also published guidance on who qualified for travel ban exceptions and educated her peers on immigration standards, worksite enforcement issues and remote/hybrid work models, which impact corporate immigration policies.
Since 2008, Eileen has been the sole leader of Laner Muchin’s Business Immigration Department. During her 24-year-long career, she handled various shifts on immigration policy, adapting to the concerns from three different administrations. As a founding member of Laner Muchin’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Eileen mentors a tight-knit team of professionals, while keeping compassion at the forefront of her work.
